Whether under chin fat is only noticeable when you are photographed from the ground up or it is a permanent condition, there are a significant number of people who are bothered by their appearance and most notably, their chins. Chin fat, though more commonly referred to as a double chin, is due to a variety of factors that include health, age, posture, and weight. In fact it is for all of these reasons that Kybella was created. Kybella is a non surgical, highly specific, FDA approved treatment, used to reduce excess fat located in the submental, or chin area, no matter how it got there.

Research has shown that one of the bile acids found in humans, deoxycholic acid, is highly successful at destroying submental fat. Though treatment is a bit rigorous, requiring 20 to 50 local injections per session, the good news is that treatments are required only for a maximum of six months, show results within two to four treatments, and subsequent injections are not required.

The acid used is well tolerated by the vast majority of patients who receive Kybella, perhaps because deoxycholic acid is familiar to the human body. And because of the high tolerance to these treatments, it is often chosen over more standard liposuction.

In order to determine if Kybella is right for you and the treatment of your chin and submental area, there are a few requirements you must meet. Kybella is given only to those who are 18 years and older, who have more than just a “little” chin fat. Individuals with swallowing problems, difficulty breathing, bleeding disorders, swollen glands or thyroid disorders are not candidates for this procedure. Additionally, anyone is severely needle phobic should really think twice before subjecting themselves to the required amounts of Kybella injections. Last but not least, if you cannot tolerate side effects that may include swelling, pain, numbness, and the temporary hardening of affected skin, you may need to seek alternate types of care.
